I'm in early to do the warfare switch, as always. While I wait for structures to demolish, I thought I'd give you guys an update on what's going on. I know some people here think I just laze around at the studio all day doing little to no work, in general it's quite the opposite. It's just not work on Legacy, or Fallen Sword, or Eldevin.
For the last year I've been working on our newest project, and as much as I'd love to show everyone what it is, it's sadly still a secret. The server-side / back end of this project is written entirely by me and it's putting me under quite a large amount of pressure.
That being said it's going to be a great game and I'm incredibly proud of what we've made so far. It should be released fully towards the end of the year, it's heavily influenced by our past projects and even has a few mechanics from Legacy in it that you'll one day see.
What does this mean for our current games? Our continued existence as a company requires that we make new products as the old ones lose popularity. This does not mean we've forgotten about you guys, and it does not mean we're shutting down old projects. It does mean it's really hard for me to find time to do updates at the moment, but wont necessarily always be that way.
I'll always try to keep Legacy running, regardless of what the company is doing, but I can't let it keep stressing me out anymore than I don't have time to do massive updates. If someone else wanted to do updates in their free time for me, I'd probably be able to swing it so they could get access to the code at this point. But we've all grown up a lot in these past 10 years, we all used to have lots of free time and now find ourselves with less and less, so I can't imagine volunteers having much more time than myself.
As for the voluntary helper situation, I'm going to loosen up the rules a bit when it comes to being staff and playing the game as well. I'll be chatting to FatTony about his possible ascension in the coming weeks.

Since I just took the time to clear out a single swear word out of a single forum from a single gang, I think it is time to invoke a little spring cleaning. What this entails is the Council of each gang going through each of their individual forums and using the search feature to find words that do not belong. This includes the obvious swears and terms that are not allowed. For an "easy" reference, simply think of what the filter blocks (within reason). If you want a list of specifics to search for since that's not specific, nominate a spokesperson to message me requesting a list. Better for me to get only 4 messages and have them spread the word than all 5 members message me for the same thing. I will check back on Apr. 2 to see how it went. If this hasn't been done, I will determine how to handle that.
"But Will," I hear most of you saying in your pleading voices, "your last blog said you will be stepping down from Staff at the end of March." Of which I must respond with, unfortunately things change. And my stepping down has been postponed due to a few issues rising up. So, for now, you guys are stuck with me until these issues are resolved.
What does this mean is changing? Right now, nothing. But I would like to remind a few of you of something. Just because you can disable the filter on side chat does not mean you are free to say anything you want. Racial slurs/slang, derogatory terms, and anything qualified as player abuse is still not allowed and can be reported. This includes all forms of communication on Legacy (side chat, wasteland, forums, etc.).
As for the Murder Mystery Scott was supposed to host, I will look into that and see what is going on. Until that time, see you guys around.

Scott included me in his blog, but I'll post my own just to clarify a few things.
Yes, I am stepping down from the Volunteer Helper team as well when Scott does. This isn't due to me not wanting to do the job anymore, but more the fact that I have a new job that takes up a majority of my time, along with sleeping. 50 hours a week and during the midnight shift, then the desire to see my family on the weekend, I just don't have the time to properly dedicate to this task anymore. So, at the end of March when Scott steps down from his post, I will be doing the same.
I applied to be staff way back in August of 2011. And amazingly enough, I joined the ranks of the staff team. Ever since, I have done the best I can to keep things not insane around here along with Scott and all those who tried to step into the shoes of a staff member at Legacy. And it has been one heck of a ride the entire way.
Some of you have annoyed me more than others, but none of that matters to me. I may stick around as a player when I can. So rejoice! Those of you who have wanted to for the last 4 1/2 years will finally be able to kill me on a daily basis
A few of you have already expressed a couple of concerns, such as the SysOps team, the Mods, and the Guides. All I will say for now is that Scott and myself will be sorting all these sort of details out before the end of March rolls around. So don't worry about all that for now.
See you guys on the flip side

Hold your horses, before you all go create a "Legacy" guild on Neopets to "keep the community together", this ship isn't sinking just yet. Only I can shut this game down, and you guys haven't managed to drive me to that yet!
Ideally I'd like to find a replacement for Scott, someone with more free time for such things than I have myself. But if it comes to it, I will do the job myself. Plans are in motion, and as Scott is quoting Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.... DON'T PANIC!
